Back to TopAdd These Great Books to Your Library!Family members of the elderly are in constant search of quality education, information, and ideas that will assist them as they begin or continue their unfamiliar journey of caring for a loved one that can no longer care for her or him self. As you know, elder care touches the entire family. Some family members respond to this 'call of duty' better than others. Some families not only need facts to help settle the confusion they find within this industry, some need support and a little encouragement along the way. It's difficult not to respond to these needs, however, with budgets the way they are nowadays, finding the time to give to these families can be burdensome. Offering a quality book to this person not only shows that you understand and care, but it also allows the senior or family member the opportunity to take self-responsibility. Start a lending library at your place of business, or if you have one now, you may want to add to it from time to time to keep it fresh. The following books are highly recommended by Senior Approved Services. Each covers topics that are sure to be of great interest and long-lasting help for seniors, their family members. And even the members of your staff will find relavant information that will help them express empathy and sincere concern for your clients. 'The Parent Care Conversation ... 6 Strategies for Dealing with the Emotional and Financial Challenges of Aging Parents' written by Dan Taylor. ' Minding Our Elders ... Back to TopWords of Wisdom - OSU Michigan GameThank you for your submissions to Words of Wisdom! Check out the latest submissions - This little gem about the OSU Michigan Game in 2006 is a submission from K.S. residing in Alliance Ohio. Thanks! A guy named Bob received a free ticket to the OSU - Michigan game from his company. Unfortunately, when he arrived at the stadium, he realized the seat was in the last row in the corner of the stadium way back in the South Stands-- he was closer to the Goodyear blimp than to the field. About halfway through the first quarter, he noticed an empty seat 10 rows off the field, right on the 50 yard line. He decided to take a chance and made his way down to the empty seat. As he sat down, he asked the gentleman sitting next to him, "Excuse me, is anyone sitting here?" The man said "No." Now, very excited to have such a great seat for the game, Bob said, "That's incredible! Who in their right mind would have a seat like this at the OSU / Michigan game and not use it?" The man replied, "Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away. This is the first Ohio State game we haven't been to together since we got married in 1967." "Well, that's really sad," said Bob. "But you couldn't find a friend or relative to come with you?" The man replied, "No. They're all at the funeral." GO BUCKS!!! Greetings from Barbara Mascio, founder of Senior Approved Services The month of December is the traditional time of the year where most folks, around the world, are planning special days of celebration with their loved ones. Whether you celebrate the Christain holiday of Christmas, the Jewish holiday of Chanukah, the African holiday of Kwanzaa, Eid'ul-Adha the Muslim's celebration, the Japanese holiday of Omisoka, (and I'm quite certain there are many more) the underlying theme is the same. All celebrate the act of giving. Our children may only understand the opposite, that of receiving, but for most of us, it is the giving that speaks to our hearts. It is the acknowlegement of the intention behind the gift that speaks to our spirit, both for the giver and the receiver. What we give, in my opinion, is not the point. It's how and why we give that counts. When you freely give without concern of recognition or of reciprocation, you begin to feel the true holiday spirit. Let's all try to keep that joyful spirit alive beyond the holiday season this year. We are living during very trying and stressful times - the entire human family shares these challenges. Acknowledge this and look for an opportunity to lighten another person's load. In doing so, you give yourself the greatest of all gifts.
Peace on Earth today and everyday!Back to Top |
